eat pray love-not...
Sep. 7th, 2010 07:22 pmI have started towards my goal the first week of school, however I love to procrastinate and therefore just now putting this up. My goal was to see a new movie a week and so I did. The movie I went to see was "eat pray love" not because I necessarily was eager to see it but because I like Julia Roberts and trusted that she wouldn't peak a bad movie to be in. Mistake... I really should have realized that when I walked in the theater (I was by myself) and saw only two other people there, an older couple. At first I thought that I was early but I wasn't. The second clue that I should have picked up on were the previews - even the previews were boring. Initially, I thought that I could possibly relate to the character as a person that is trying to find herself, as many of us go through that stage of life where we are not too sure of what we want and where we should be heading. However, towards the end I found the main character to be more of spoiled individual, who was not ready to settle down and needed some adventure rather than self exploration. In the beginning of the movie she goes to see a prophet who tells her that she is going to be in a short marriage and in a long one and that she will lose all of her money, however, not to worry as things will work themselves out. So, a couple of nights later after prying (for the first time in her life), and asking God to tell her what to do because she is lost and confused, she goes to bed and immediately tells her husband that she wants a divorce. Then, she heads overseas, where she tries to discover herself by constantly going out for dinners. At the same time she always has her laptop and somehow is able to afford whatever her sight desires. She did end up falling in love again and committing as the end of the movie suggests but I found her road towards self discovery to be somewhat shallow and superficial. Basically, the movie left me wondering - did the movie butcher the book, or was it the other way around? I'm sorry if this entry is too long I'll try to make it shorter next time :)
